Last Indian is out of cricket World Cup

The last Indian left in the ongoing cricket World Cup, match referee Javagal Srinath, also bowed out Tuesday when postings for the umpires and referees were announced for the second round matches starting here Tuesday.

After the Indian team shockingly crashed out of the World Cup in the first round, Srinath was the lone Indian left in the 16-nation tournament. But when the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced nine umpires and four referees for 24 second-round matches his name was not there.

Srinath, a former India fast bowler, officiated in the first-round matches.

No Indian umpire was picked for the World Cup.

Mark Benson, Billy Bowden, Steve Bucknor, Aleem Dar, Billy Doctrove, Daryl Harper, Rudi Koertzen, Asad Rauf and Simon Taufel will be the umpires while Chris Broad, Jeff Crowe, Ranjan Madugalle and Mike Procter will be the match referees, ICC said.

The second round, or Super Eight, matches started with a West Indies-Australia encounter here.

Pakistani pair Dar and Rauf have been appointed as on-field umpires for this match while is Bowden is the third umpire and Koertzen the television official. Former England player Broad is the match referee.

Appointments for the semi-finals and final will be announced later.
