Bangladesh leaders congratulate cricket team Dhaka | March 27, 2007 1:15:16 AM IST
Top leaders of Bangladesh Monday greeted the players, the coach and officials of the national cricket team as they graduated to the Super Eight round of the ongoing World Cup, local news agency UNB reported. In a message of felicitation, President Iajuddin Ahmed expressed his hope that the national team would also be able to "sustain their success in the ICC (International Cricket Council) World Cup by showing their skill in future". In his message, Fakhruddin Ahmed, chief advisor of the caretaker government, expressed his optimism that the team would be able to build on its success in the next matches of the tournament, putting up their "best skill". The team made history when they beat Bermuda Sunday night by seven wickets in a rain-affected match in Trinidad, booking their berth in the Super Eight round of the tourney. On their way to the second round, Bangladesh earlier had defeated India by five wickets. --Xinhua (IANS)
