Cricket fans slam Team India for woeful World Cup
Bangalore | March 26, 2007 4:23:31 PM IST

Cricket enthusiasts across the country have expressed their disappointment at Team India's woeful exit from the World Cup.

Locals in Bangalore, the hometown of skipper Rahul Dravid and leg spinner Anil Kumble said the team needed to rectify the problems that had led to their defeat."There seems to be some psychological effect that is upsetting the Indian rhythm and that needs to be corrected before they go into any more tournaments of this sort. We cannot afford to bring down our standard anymore," Girish Ramakrishnan, a local said.

In New Delhi, cricket fans said the team could not have reached far even if it made it to the super eight."We could not have expected India to perform even if Bermuda defeatedangladesh and India had got into the Super Eight. India's game has been so poor. They have let the people down," said K.K. Pillai, a cricket fan.

Team India was knocked out of the World Cup on Sunday after Bangladesh defeated debutants Bermuda in a final Group B match.Indians were relying on Bermuda to cause an upset to sneak through on a better net run rate after they were defeated by Sri Lanka by 69 run.

India, managed to win only one league match against Bermuda in the tournament.Security has been beefed up outside the residence of some of the players for fears of an attack or stone pelting by fans. (ANI)
