Cricket betting racket busted in Indore
Indore | March 26, 2007 2:15:06 PM IST

Cricket fans might have been devastated by the ouster of Team India from the World Cup but bookies seem to be quite unaffected here as the betting business in Madhya Pradesh continues to flourish, knowledgeable sources said.

Indore appears to be the main betting centre during this ICC World Cup. This is evident from more and more betting rackets being unearthed here every day.

Police on Saturday night busted one more betting racket in Indore, arrested four persons and recovered Rs. 46,000, besides 'satta' slips amounting to millions of rupees, police officials said Monday.

"The persons arrested were betting on the match between South Africa and Australia," said Rajesh Vyas, deputy superintendent of police, crime branch. "The accused are being interrogated to ascertain their link with bigger bookies," he said.

Earlier, on Tuesday too, Indore police had caught two persons operating a betting racket during the New Zealand-Kenya cricket match and recovered betting slips worth Rs. 300,000, mobile phones and a portable TV.
