Imran blames Musharraf for cricket crisis
Karachi | March 25, 2007 4:07:34 PM IST

Former Pakistan captain Imran Khan has blamed President Pervez Musharraf for the present cricket crisis in the country and has called for an immediate dissociation of the President's office from cricket affairs.

After Musharraf took over as President and chief patron of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the crisis became more serious, Imran said.

"He has changed four Chairmen of the board and yet we were out from the 2003 and 2007 World Cups in the first round itself," Imran told reporters.

On President's office interference in the cricket board, he said, "No cricket playing country have the interference of President's office in it."

Imran added that like other institutions, Musharraf has also ruined the cricket of Pakistan.

Imran, who is also Chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran, has played 175 ODIs and 88 Tests, offered his services to revive and restructure the cricket set-up.

"Those people who only look for positions or jobs in the board should not be consulted in cricket matters. I have no desire to hold any position in the board and I am willing to offer my expertise and advice to bring about improvement in Pakistan cricket," he said.

While suggesting the next coach's name, Imran said, "As far as the captaincy is concerned, obviously since Younis Khan has been groomed for this responsibility, he should be made captain in place of Inzamam-ul-Haq. And I would suggest the name of Aaqib Javed as coach." (ANI)
