Pakistan cricketers in no hurry to return home, to stopover in London, Dubai Lahore | March 25, 2007 2:08:47 PM IST
Several Pakistani players are unlikely to return home anytime soon in the wake of the cricket team's dismal performance at the 2007 World Cup. The team's shocking defeat at the hands of Ireland and the tragic murder of their coach Bob Woolmer in Jamaica, has convinced some of the players to prudently delay returning to Pakistan to avoid a public backlash. Quoting reliable team sources, The News said that some of the players are planning to stopover in London and Dubai before returning home. A team source said that the players have preferred not to reach Pakistan together and would be returning to their native cities in groups of two to three players over the next one week. It is apparent that the players are not ready to face the wrath of their fans and have opted to make a low-profile return to Pakistan. Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq said that he is not scared of the hostile reception that he and his players are likely to get in Pakistan. "We tried our best but failed in our bid to do well in the World Cup. All I can say is we are all sorry," he said. (ANI)
