Win for Sri Lanka ,shame for India
Port of Spain| March 24, 2007 11:33:41 AM IST

Indian cricket fan’s worst fears have come true.Their famed men in blue have let them down by allowing Sri Lanka to win the Group B match at Queen''s Park Oval in Port of Spain by 69 runs.

Unless Bermuda beats Bangladesh on Sunday by a huge margin, team India will return home with their head held low and without a chance at the coveted cup.

Chasing a target of 255 in 50 overs after skipper Rahul Dravid chose to field first, the Indian team were bowled out for only 185 runs in 43.3 overs for their worst performance in the World cup since the 1979 tournament.

In the 1979 World Cup they had failed to win even one match.

India had lost their first group match against Bangladesh by five wickets with their only win coming against minnows Bermuda who were thrashed by a world-record margin of 257 runs.

Batting first, the Lankan top order failed but their middle and tail end put on a reasonable show to add 254/6 on the board in 50 overs. And the middle order is what made all the difference between the two teams.Indian top order crumbled under pressure and unlike their opponents the middle order also failed to hold on, loosing wickets at regular intervals.
