All roads lead to Queen's Park Oval as India take on Lanka Port of Spain (Trinidad) | March 23, 2007 10:15:06 PM IST
Roads to Port of Spain were overflowing with fans in all their finery for the crucial India-Sri Lanka match Friday. Cricket is in the air in this Trinidad capital and the fans - most wearing India T-shirts, some with faces painted in tricolour and carrying the Indian flag - converged into the stadium. "I have been here for the last 10 days," said Harry Singh of Oxford, England, adding he is being accompanied by his family "to support the (Indian) team and hoping that they beat Sri Lanka." "I got up at 4 in the morning and worshipped so that the Indian team win," said Laxman Singh, a local businessman, who adds: "More than that I am hoping to see a good game of cricket." The atmosphere was electrifying outside the Queen Park where dancers in the exotic Trini carnival outfits were moving to the beats of the music. As fans filled the stands and put their vocal chords and drum beats behind the Indian team, it is a do-or-die situation for the players in the field. A loss in Friday's match would be the end of India's tryst in the World Cup. (IANS)
