Total recall: 1975 cricket World Cup New Delhi | February 22, 2007 11:15:06 AM IST
The first World Cup was played in England from June 7-21, 1975, with the West Indies winning the title in a closely fought final against Australia at Lord's, London. Appropriately enough, Clive Lloyd played a captain's knock of 102 to guide his team to a 17-run win in the final. Australian pacer Gary Gilmour's five-wicket haul went in vain as the West Indies won their fifth successive match in the eight-team tournament. In all, 15 matches were played, starting with an India-England encounter at Lord's June 7.
