CWC 2007 to promote brand World Cup in India
Kingston Jamaica | July 07, 2006 3:46:38 PM IST

Recognishing that India is an important market for the ICC, World Cup West Indies 2007 Inc. 2007 Director and CEO Chris Dehring said he and other executives of the committee wil participate in a brand promotion event in New Delhi on July 27.

The event will be held by the tournament's Official Global Partners -- LG Electronics, Pepsi, Hutch and Hero Honda -- to promote the World Cup brand in the country.

Dehring stressed that India is an extremely important market to ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 as it is the next host of the the event and provides the largest television audience in addition to being the base for the tournament's four official global partners and two of the official sponsors.

''There is therefore a very strong link between Cricket and India. To show our commitment to strengthening this relationship, our executives will participate in this event which will highlight the Cricket World Cup brand in India and offer a taste of what fans can expect in the Caribbean next year,'' Dehring said in a release.

''It will also allow us to express support for the tournament's commercial partners who have a vested interest in the World Cup,'' he added.

Meanwhile, ICC CWC 2007 Commercial Manager Stephen Price revealed that India has, so far, recorded the seventh-highest number of applications for the tickets which went to sale in May. The UK topped the list.

Price also disclosed that there have been more than a thousand applications for Follow A Path packages from India fans. This is the most by fans of any of the 16 Participating Nations for such packages which would allow them to follow their team from Group Stage matches right up to the Final.

''Additionally, a significant number of applications have been received for matches that would feature the Indian team should they advance to the second round of the Cricket World Cup,'' Price said.
