Ashley Mallet teaches off-spin at Spin Foundation
Chennai | May 08, 2006 4:45:01 PM IST

While Dennis Lillee continues to spot and polish raw pace talents in the MRF Pace Academy, his former team mate Ashley Mallett is teaching the finer aspects of spin coaching at the MAC Spin Foundation here.

In an effort to restore India's glory in spin bowling, the foundation has kicked off the new season inviting the former Aussie cricketer and Mallet is imparting the skills of off spin bowling to about 12 out of the 16 boys.

Mallet will be at the Foundation till May 12 and will return in August to interact with the wards again, according to former cricketer Peter Fernandez, in-charge of the activities at the foundation.

However, some of the boys couldn't be present for this clinic with Mallet due to various reasons including examinations, he said.

Since being set up in late 80s, the Spin Foundation has invited legends like former West Indies captain and allrounder Gary Sobers and Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralithharan to inspire the trainees.

Former Indian off-spinner E A S Prasanna is also among the ace spinners who have taught the boys at the Foundation.

Former India left arm spinner Venkatapathy Raju was recently roped in to train the boys and the foundation had also recently installed floodlights to facilitate the boys to train in the evenings after school hours.
