First identical twin camels bred in UAE (Lead) Dubai | May 14, 2008 5:45:38 PM IST
Scientists here have successfully produced United Arab Emirates' first identical twin camels using embryo splitting technology, WAM news agency reported Wednesday. According to scientists at Dubai Camel Breeding Centre, the genetically identical twin camels, Zahi and Baih, were naturally born to two surrogate camel mothers Feb 10 and 23. Both are in good health. For the first time scientists in the Gulf region used a sophisticated technology called embryo splitting technology to produce the identical twin camels from a six-day-old camel embryo. The split embryos were treated before being implanted into surrogate mothers, the report said Tuesday. snb/jg (116 Words)14051632NNNN (IANS)
