Swedish emergency rooms closed by strike
Stockholm, Sweden | May 10, 2008 12:01:13 AM IST

Emergency rooms were closed at a number of Swedish hospitals Monday after nurses and other healthcare workers went out on strike.

In Stockholm, hospitals created a rolling schedule of emergency room closures, the Swedish News Agency TT reported.

Some 2,500 nurses, midwives and other members of the Swedish Association of Healthcare Professionals were prepared to go on strike after a final attempt to reach an agreement over pay issues with the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions ended in deadlock Saturday.
