Meghalaya has many as 15 major polluting industries being operated by various firms, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma told Assembly today.
Replying to query during the Question Hour raised by Leader of Opposition, Donkupar Roy in Assembly, Dr Sangma informed that only one firm, M/s CMJ Breweries has set up an effluent treatment plant and others have not. The polluting industries include cement plants operating in minerals-rich Jaintia hills of the state. The polluting industries besides CMJ Breweries Byrnihat, include Mawmluh Cherra Cement Limited at Sohra East Khasi Hills, Shakam-bari Ferrous Limited at Rwiang West Khasi Hills, Maithan Alloys private limited and Shyam Century Ferrous at Byrnihat, RNB Cements Limited Umiam, Star Cement Limited, Star Cement Meghalaya Limited, Meghalaya power limited at Lumshnong village, Adhunik Cement limited Thangksai village, Amrit cement limited Umlaper, JUD cement limited Wahiajer, Hills cement limited Mynkre, Green Valley Industries, Virgo cement limited Damas in East Garo Hills.
