Terming India's approach on trade and business is different from China, Commerce Secretary Rita Teoatia today said the country's trade policy with other countries, including neighbouring states depend on the levels of equal partnerships.

"Let's get real about China. India is not like China. We are a different country and we have a different policy. Our engagements with other countries are on levels of partnerships. We choose as a country to have a policy to work together with those countries with whom we built economic prosperity," Ms Teoatia said after the launch of the study on 'Enhancing India-Myanmar Border Trade' here.

The secretary also said India believes in economic prosperity and growth of its partner countries along with its sub-continent.

"Our strategy has to be such that while there is development, growth and prosperity has to be so for the neighbours and partner countries. India doesn't claim as the first as of any country that's the reason. I think we need to recognize that it makes look sometimes that our strategy appears timid that's because we need to keep an eye on the sensitivities of our partner countries," she added.

Ms Teoatia further said India's policy is not of replicating kind, "As far as I understand and know about our policies, we do not choose to replicate that's our clear approach."
