WWE president apologises for tricolour incident

World Wrestling Entertainment international president Gerrit Meier today apologised for Atlanta Olympic Gold medalist Kurt Angle's actions of 'disrespecting' the Indian flag, saying they had no such intentions. Earlier, the tricolour was disrespected in WWE during the show called Heat in the 1990s when Kurt Angle took the Indian flag and wiped his nose with it. ''This case is about 20-years-ago and we did not deliberately did that. We have a great respect for the country,'' Meier said on the sidelines of the launch of WWE live India.Answering to a question that Kurt Angle has still not apologised for it to India, on the other hand the institution fined and suspended Big Show and Chris Jericho for insulting Russia's and Brazilian national flag respectively, he said, "We are sorry that it happened, but we had no intention of doing it . India is a reputable country and we apologise for this.''WWE live India will kick start on January 15 here at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium. After 14 years it will be the first time that India will be hosting the big event. Earlier in 2002, the WWE live events were organised.Speaking on the excitement of Indian fans, Meier said "We are extremely pleased that India is hosting the live events again. There are good number of fans and I am confident that they will enjoy it all. Nearly 14 years later, we are once again on the ground of India will play a WWE match. It will be historic because India has a large number of its fans.On the other hand the World Heavyweight champion Roman Reigns who is in India with a female wrestler Charlotte said, "I feel very good that India will play against. Nice to be here. WWE fans in this country are in large numbers." Asked about his hero Roman said, "My mother is my hero hero. My father was a wrestler and he used to wander around the world so my mother took care of me. She has given me so much love.'' He also lauded the Indian wrestler the Great Khali and said, "I know him.He is a good wrestler, a good human being. He speaks softly and it feels good when i talk to him.''UNI GAU/TBA DS 1703
