I was hit and only trying to defend myself- Saif
New Delhi | Thursday, Feb 23 2012 IST

Hours after a South Africa based NRI businessman accused Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan of punching him following an argument inside a Mumbai hotel, the actor alleged that he was infact the victim in the incident having been hit by the businessman and that he was only defending himself. 'I was hit and was only defending myself,' Saif Ali Khan said in a statement issued from Mumbai tonight. In his statement Saif said he had also filed a complaint with the police about what happened last night and claimed that the footage from CCTV cameras at the hotel would prove what happened. 'I have been to the police station to answer the requirements of law as I am a law abiding citizen. I have also filed a complaint about what happened last night and I am confident justice will be done. 'There was an ugly incident last night where my friends and the ladies with us were abused and I was assaulted,' he said. Actor Saif Ali Khan said he was the victim in the entire incident. 'Taj Hotel's CCTV cameras will prove what happened,' he said. Expressing the hope that the media would remain impartial while the matter was being decided, Saif said,'I don't think any gentleman would have behaved differently.' Iqbal Sharma, a South Africa based Indian businessman had accused Saif of punching him in the nose after Sharma objected to the din at the actor's table during dinner, The actor was briefly arrested earlier today on a complaint filed by the businessman but soon after released on bail.
