Brahma Kumaris organise peace march in Mumbai
Mumbai |Sunday, 2011 7:35:05 PM IST

As a part of the platinum jubilee celebrations, spiritual organisation Brahma Kumaris Sunday organised a "Shanti Yatra (Peace March)" for Mumbai residents.

Over 1,500 people participated in the march, with placards bearing messages like: "Self transformation brings world transformation", "The donation of peace is the greatest and noblest form of charity", "To taste the sweetness of life, you have to forget the past", "Purity is the mother of peace and prosperity".

"Keeping in mind the kind of violence and mishaps the city is facing, the 'Shanti Yatra' will aid in bringing about calmness in the minds of people and make each one realise the benefits of harmony in life," said Rajyogini Brahma Kumari Santosh Didi, zonal head of Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.

"Peace is not just an absence of sound but also a state of introspection. Inner peace provides a way to distance ourselves from all that is happening in our lives, to keep our motivations clear and positive, and control the invaluable power of the mind. It allows us to connect with the self within and find answers beyond the intellect through communication with God, she added.

The Brahma Kumaris will organise nine-day celebrations starting Dec 17, where various activities will be initiated by organisation revolving around the theme "One God, One World, One Family".

The festivity will witness the participation of celebrities, spiritual leaders, industrialists, film stars and other opinion makers for the discourses, interactive sessions, stress and de-addiction counselling, Raja Yoga courses, contests and other activities.

The national celebrations of the organisation - said to have 9,000 branches in 137 countries - were inaugurated by President Pratibha Patil in Gurgaon Sep 16 this year.

The Brahma Kumaris have also set up hospitals which practice the use of medicine along with meditation, including in Mumbai and Mount Abu in Rajasthan.

It also runs education programs in schools around the country, operates stress management courses with leading companies around the world and collaborates with the UN on many projects.
