India Milch animals for farmers from neighbouring States
Farmers in Andhra Pradesh will be allowed to purchase milch animals from neighbouring States under the ''Pasukranthi Scheme'' from this year to increase milk production in the State, Animal Husbandry Minister K Parthasarathy informed the Assembly today. As members complained during the Question Hour that milch animals purchased from Haryana for farmers under the Prime Minister's and the Chief Minister's package were unable to survive in view of the changed climatic conditions in the State, he said, ''farmers can purchase milch animals from neighbouring States like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka from this year.'' As many as 1.37 lakh milch animals and heifers had been purchased as on March 11, 2010 under the Prime Minister's Package, Chief Minister's Package and Rajiv Krishi Vignan Yojana, he said, replying to BJP Member G Kishan Reddy. The State stood second in the country in milk production, producing 95.65 lakh tonnes during 2008-09 as against only 69.59 lakh tonnes during 1999-2000 in the erstwhile TDP Regime, he said. -- (UNI) -- 19MS40.xml
