Cong Govt in forefront of implementing welfare schemes
Hyderabad | Friday, Mar 19 2010 IST

In spite of the global economic downturn, drought and floods, the Congress Government had presented the over Rs 1,13,000 crore Budget continuing its focus on welfare schemes for the weaker sections, Government Chief Whip B Vikramarka said today.

Participating in the debate on Demands for Grants for Welfare of SCs, STs, BCs, Minorities, Women and Children, he said at a time when developed and developing countries were hit hard by economic slowdown, the Rosaiah Government continued its thrust on welfare schemes for achieving ''inclusive growth''.

Making a comparision with the allocation made by the erstwhile TDP Regime, he said the allocation for Welfare Department had more than doubled to Rs 14,975 crore between 2003-04 and 2009-10 as against mere Rs 6,583.77 crore during 1999-2000 to 2003-04. ''We have taken up a large number of welfare schemes on saturation mode to provide pensions, houses, scholarships and fee reimbursement to members of weaker sections never dreamt of by the TDP, whose chief had described himself as the Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of the State and allegedly neglected the welfare of the weaker sections,''Mr Vikramarka said.
