Two Maoists killed in encounter

Two extremists of the banned CPI (Maoists) were killed in an exchange of fire with the police today at Venkatapuram near Bhadrachalam in this district of Andhra Pradesh bordering Chhattisgarh.

On a tip off, a police party was combing the area. Sensing this, the extremists opened fire on the police. Police returned the fire, killing the duo on the spot, police said.

Police recovered two weapons from the spot. The combing operation was still on, they added.
