Cong Councillors walk out
Puducherry | Friday, Mar 19 2010 IST

Congress councillors staged a walk out in the 25th Council meeting of the Ozhukarai Municipality here today, protesting against some remarks made by Chairman NSJ Jayapal.

As soon as the session commenced, CPI councillors, Devasahayam, Sekhar, Balaraman and Sudha brought some mosquito nets and a mosquito reppellent spray the Chairman's table and covered it.

They then announced that they were staging a walk out as the municipaity had failed to protect the people from the mosquito menace.

As the meeting progressed, a few councillors including Independents stood up and charged that the Municipality had failed to execute even small work. To this, Mr Jayapal replied that last year the municipality received Rs 1.02 crore as a grant from the Government and this year it is yet to get any money and made some remark in support of Former Chief Minsiter N Rangasamy. Congress Councillors Sibi, Tamizharasi, Poongavanam and a few others objected to this and pointed out that the Chairman shoud have sought funds from the Governent and charged that he is politicising everything. Following an uproar, the Congress councillors staged a walk out.
