Jammu | Friday, Mar 19 2010 IST

The Jammu and Kashmir Government today informed the Assembly that 541 families, dislocated during the Operation Parakaram, have been allowed to return to their native villages in Balakote Sector of tehsil Mendhar in Poonch district.

The government was replying to a question tabled by MLA Sardar Rafiq Hussain Khan that whether it is a fact that inhabitants of border areas of Balakote sector, who were dislocated by the Army some three years back, have now been allowed to go back to their villages and what steps have been taken to provide them adequate compensation for repairing their damaged houses.

The government said the inhabitants of 13 villages of Balakote Sector comprising 541 families, who were dislocated due to security reasons during the operation, have been allowed to return to their native villages and cultivate their lands in the year 2008.

''A special package of Rs 7 crore was released to the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu by the Home Department for the rehabilitation of border migrants of Balakote,'' the Minister in-charge said.

He further said a comprehensive plan for proper rehabilitation and upgradation of basic facilities is being formulated under BADP by different departments on the instructions of the state government.
