India North Kashmir again on boil
Apple township of Sopore and this north Kashmir town remained tense as people took to the streets this afternoon, protesting against the alleged Human Rights (HR) violations by security forces and continued detention of separatists. Hundreds of people, mostly youth, took to the streets in the old town Baramulla after Friday prayers. They pelted stones on security forces and nearby police station. Additional security forces were rushed to the area to maintain peace. The trouble started immediately after Friday prayers were over in the town and adjoining areas where majority shops remained closed today after observing a complete shut-down for two days. They were protesting against the killing of a youth Tanvir Ahmad, alleging that he was shot dead by police after a Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police was killed by militants on March 16. They also alleged that police arrested three traders Fayaz Ahmad, Irshad Ahmad and Ali Mohammad and beat them up without any reason. The agitators pelted stones after they were prevented from marching towards the main road. Later, security forces burst teargas shells to disperse the demonstrators, who were raising ''pro-freedom'' and anti-police slogans. During the past two days about two dozen people, including some security personnel, were injured in similar clashes. Earlier in the morning, some shops reopened and traffic resumed on all routes.
