Sub Inspector attempts to commit suicide

Upset over the arrest of his wife and son by the police in connection with a petty quarrel, a Sub-Inspector of Police attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison at Bodi, near here, today.

Police sources said Jegannathan (58), attached to Bodi Taluk Police Station, was found in an unconscious state in his house by the neighbours this morning.

He was rushed to the Government Hospital, Bodi. As his condition became critical, he was later shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital at Theni.

Investigations revealed that Jegannathans wife and son were arrested by the Bodi Town Police in connection with a quarrel with their neighbour, yesterday. Distressed over the police action, he consumed pesticide. His condition was stated to be critical, the sources added.
