Police rescues student from abductors

In a swift action, Tamil Nadu Police rescued a nine-year-old student, who was kidnapped by a gang for ransom within 3o minitues of the occurence of the crime, here this evening.

Police sources said a three-member gang kidnapped R Praveen Kumar (9), studying in fourth standard in a private school at TVS Nagar.

His brother R Santhosh Kumar (12), also studying in the same school, raised an alarm. A passer-by Kali Mahesh (34) chased the van in which the boy was being abducted.

The kidnappers knocked down the motorcycle of Kali Mahesh.

Despite the injuries Kali Mahesh alerted the police from his mobile.

On information, the police sounded a red alert to the check-posts in the district.

Meanwhile, a police team intercepted the Van at Palanganatham bridge and arrested the kidnappers at gun-point.

The trio identified as Venkatesh (20), who was the key accused and his accomplices Anand (21) and Mano Prakash (20).

The gang kidnapped the student for a ransom of Rs 10 lakh from D Rama Raj, who was running a plastic company in the city and is father of Praveen Kumar.

The entire rescue operation was executed by the police within 30 minutes of the occurence of the crime, police added.
