Gambhir not well, says Karthik
New Delhi | Thursday, Mar 18 2010 IST

Delhi Daredevils captain Gautam Gambhir pulled a hamstring in his left foot today and his deputy Dinesh Karthik admitted that the injury to the opener was serious. ''At the moment he (Gambhir) does not look good,'' said Karthik after the Daredevils' 98-run loss to Mumbai Indians tonight.

''I don't want to speculate anything and we will get to know more about his injury tomorrow which will be announced soon,'' he added.

Gambhir had to be rushed back to dressing room after just 1.1 overs were bowled in the match when the Delhi captain pulled his hamstring.

The left-hander did not come out to bat as well when Delhi were chasing Mumbai Indians' 218 for seven.

Karthik also admitted that it was difficult for him to arrange the field for Sachin Tendulkar, who was in supreme form today.

The Master blaster struck 63 off just 32 balls as he set the tone for Mumbai Indians' massive score.

''It was really difficult to set the field for him (Tendulkar) and had to keep changing the field but one does not have many options when he is in such form.

''The over-rate too was playing on our minds as we could not waste too much of time on changing field,'' he added.

With the World Twenty20 set to begin from next month, many of the Indian players have been injured during this season of the IPL.

But Karthik said the World Twenty20 was still some weeks away and by then, India should be ready with its full strength team.

''Players have got injured while playing and that can happen anywhere, even at the practice. None of the players came into the tournament with injuries.

''Twenty20 World Cup is still six to seven weeks away and we still have a long way to go,'' he added.

The Tamil Nadu batsman was also looking forward to face Chennai Super Kings in their next encounter on March 19 and said Mahendra Singh Dhoni's absence should go in favour of Delhi.
