K'taka minister ensures uninterrupted 'beer flow' in IPL match
Bangalore | Tuesday, Mar 16 2010 IST

Eager to ensure the city's tag as the ''pub capital'' of India, Karnataka Excise Minister M P Renukacharya today personally guaranteed that enough beer was served at the IPL III match between Bangalore Royal Challengers and Kings XI Punjab.

The Minister, Mr Renukacharya, made a surprise visit to the M Chinnaswamy stadium with a team of officials and made sure enough cans of chilled beer were available in the stands.

Speaking to UNI he said, ''IPL is an international event and crowning glory of the Indian cricket. I just wanted to make sure that the fans enjoy the cricket the right way.'' The government's move must have made liquor baron Vijay Mallya, who owns the RCB, very happy. The Kingfisher's beer brand, which Mallya owns was served uninterrupted for all those who wanted to enjoy both -- the beer and the most explosive version of cricket.

''We made sure that enough beer was supplied in the four designated stands,'' the minister said. The minister's visit came as the City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari was apprehensive of serving the drink in the stands which was a big hit during inaugural IPL played in India. However, the Police official had reluctantly agreed to allow supply of beer but restricted it just to back of the stands.

However, in the end all was well as spectators were able to enjoy both cricket as well as beer.
