Over Rs 59 crore recovered from power defaulters in Haryana

The Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) has recovered arrears of over Rs 59 crore from 7,300 power defaulters in its area under a special campaign during last ten days, a spokesman of DHBVN said here today.

He said that this included Rs 52.67 crore paid by the department of irrigation which is likely to pay additional Rs 35 crore during next week.

The spokesman said that since December, 2009, when the campaign was launched, DHBVN has recovered total arrears of Rs 130 crore from about one lakh defaulter consumers, including 1150 consumers whose connections have already disconnected.

As many as 142 teams of DHBVN employees constituted for the drive have detected 775 cases of power theft during last ten days and imposed penalty amounting to Rs 1.20 crore on the erring consumers. The employees deployed for the campaign have detected total 11,475 cases of theft by conducting 46,800 raids and imposed penalty amounting to Rs 20 crore on the erring consumers. The Nigam has filed 5523 FIRs to the police out of which 530 FIRs have already been registered against those who are reluctant in paying the amount of the penalty.
