Madhushree releases patriotic "Vande Mataram" tribute album
Ahmedabad | Thursday, Jan 21 2010 IST

Popular playback singer, Madhushree, who cornered the limelight with her ''Kabhi Neem Neem...'' from ''Yuva'' has released ''Vande Mataram-Meri Awaaz Suno,'' a six-track album that pays tribute to the unsung heroes of the country.

The artist has collaborated with Padma Bhushan Dr Sardar Anjum (lyrics), Robby Badal (composer) and Sukhwinder Singh, who lends his voice for the title track for which a video was shot in Mumbai, with clippings of the armed forces, police and the burning Taj Mahal hotel, has also been produced. The end result is a down-to-earth organic sound that matches the theme of the album.

''I was in Chandigarh watching the 26/11 attack on television which upset me very much. I was motivated to do something for the people who gave their lives, the youth and for a better Indo-Pakistan relationship. I then met Dr Anjum, who impressed me with his writings and roped in Robby Deol. The album took a few months to produce,'' said Madhushree to UNI.

For the artist who has worked with industry heavyweights like A R Rahman, the tracks are motivating songs urging people to think a little less about themselves and a little more about their country.

''Its a humble tribute to those who have sacrificed their lives for the country. As a singer, I can contribute by singing. I could have made a romantic album, but this is straight from the heart,'' she said.

The album is available at music stores nationwide.
