Speaker's election leads to pandemonium in K'taka Assembly

Mr K G Bopaiah, the Deputy Speaker and BJP leader from Kodagu, was today elected as the new Speaker of the Karantaka Assembly amid the unsavory incidents like uprooting of mikes and attack on the Chair by the Opposition Janata Dal(S) and Congress members.

Immediately after the House reassembled, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa informed the House about the sad demise of the veteran Kannada actor Vishnuvardhan and moved a condolence motion.

Several Members of the House including the Opposition Leader Siddaramaiah of Congress and JD(S) Floor Leader H D Revanna spoke on the motion and paid their homage to the veteran actor who passed away in the wee hours in Mysore today.

Immediately after the passing of the condolence motion, Mr Siddaramaiah, appealed to the Chair to adjourn the proceedings including the process to elect the new Speaker of the House, which was listed in the day's agenda.
