114 ultrasound machines seized in Haryana under PNDT Act

The Haryana Health Department has seized 114 ultrasound machines and suspended or cancelled registration of 245 ultrasound centres for violation of various provisions of the Pre-Natal Diagnostic Technique (PNDT) Act.

Stating this here today Health Minister Geeta Bhukal said, the State government was all set to curb female foeticide in the state. As a result of the legal actions initiated by the State government against those invovled in the heinous crime of female foeticide or sex determination, 14 people, including doctors, had been convicted under the PNDT Act in various districts and two people convicted under MTP Act.

She said, all the District Appropriate Authorities had been directed to take personal interest and to play a pro-active role in conducting raids in the clinics, violating provisions of the PNDT Act, by deploying decoy customers and, as a result of this, 49 prosecution complaints had been filed in respective courts.

Out of these 49 cases, 19 cases had been filed for sex determination, 3 cases for issuing of prohibited advertisement, 17 cases for non-maintenance of records and 9 cases being un-registered, 1 case for selling medicine for male child.

Four cases had been filed under MTP Act, one each in Ambala, Gurgaon, Panipat and Panchkula.
