Security at Babri structure costs cr to administration

Expenditure worth several crore of rupees has so far been incurred on tight security measures at the Babri structure here since its demolition in 1992.

Each year, the local administration enhances security at the holy city, specially near the demolition anniversary on December 6.

This year too, crore of rupees have been spent on barricading, Close Circuit Television Cameras, (CCTV) watch towers and deployment of policemen at the sensitive site.

According to sources, a hefty amount has till now been incurred on the security arrangements in view of the 17th demolition anniversary falling tomorrow. Rs four crore and Rs three crore have respectively been incurred at barricading and watch towers at the site.

Housing arrangement for security personnel and smooth supply of electricity were yet another heads, which take up the cost of the arrangements.

As per sources, a sum not less than one crore have only be spent on cleanliness at the disputed site since 1992. CCTV Cameras amounting to two crore were spent for stringent security in wake of the terror attack on July 5, 2005.

Bullet proof vehicles and monitoring of crowd access were other heads of expenditure, besides timely meetings of officials.

Meanwhile, elaborate security arrangements have been made at the holy city in view of the 17th anniversary of the Babri structure demolition tomorrow.

The local administration has clamped Prohibitory Orders for no lapse of security. Ayodhya and nearby areas have been divided into seven zones and 15 sectors, besides deploying the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and the Rapid Action Force.
