India '9/11 is hand made problem of the US, not terrorism' : Roland Reber
For veteran German writer and director, Roland Reber, the horrid 9/11 terrorist strike in the US is not an act of terrorism but it is US' own making. ''For me, 9/11 is a hand made problem of the US, not terrorism. I plan to do a film on the political topic exposing the 'lie of 9/11' in two years hence. I will tell this episode as a private intimate story to the audience. I have to get the mode first to write the script which I could do in a week,'' he said. Reber told media in a candid talk during his free-wheeling interaction with the mediapersons on the sidelines of the ongoing 40th edition of the IFFI here yesterday. So was the subject of unification of Germany which stunned the whole world in 1991, that marked the breaking of the historic Berlin wall that divided East and West Germany following public uprising. ''For me, it is not unification, but emergence of a new colony. The West Germans occupying the East Germany and treating the lattrer as second class citizens, erupting a host of social problems including life insurance and social security,'' the white bearded Reber said. Stating that Germany values ''freedom of expression'' utmost even now, he said the government had no role in directly influencing the film industry. It may do indirectly through other means as ''censorship is unthinkable in Germany''. Germany produces as many as 300 films every year and there are about 200 companies engaged in the profession even as Hollywood influence dominates in the European country. As many as 80 per cent of the films screened in Germany were from Hollywood and the rest from other nations like neighbouring European countries including Poland and Czech. He said Germany had not signed any co-production treaty with any other country, which include India. But our films are screened in 52 other countries. He said, he was planning to visit India to have a dialogue with noted film director Bobby Bedi for a movie to be made in India with the theme of ''foolish Germans visiting India to get enlightenment during weekends''. He said most of the Germans produce films with the money raised through sale of rights but never depend on the government. It is totally an independent industry. It takes about 5 to 6 millioin euros for making a film and 2 to 3 million euros for making a TV film. Film makers and actors are not afterall ordinary human beings because for us, filmmaking is nothing but a dialogue with the audience. ''We should not feel like Gods or inventors,'' he added. Actresses Marina Ann Eich and Antje Nikola Monning were also present along with Reber to share their views. They acted in the film ''Angels with dirty wings'' now being screened at the ongoing IFFI here. ''The film is an anthem of immorality, a holy song of egoism and a painful study about our time, depicting three women with no morals,'' they added. -- (UNI) -- 28DR1.xml
