India 66 rail stations identified for Multi Functional Complexes
As many as 66 railway stations serving places of pilgrimage, industry and tourist interest have been identified for development of Multi Functional Complexes (MFCs) to provide various facilities to the commuters, the Lok Sabha was informed today. Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee said in a reply that rail users will be provided with facilities like shopping, food stalls and restaurants, book stalls, telephone booths, medicine and variety stores, budget hotels and underground parking in the MFCs. She said the construction work of MFCs has been entrusted to IRCON and Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) which have taken it up in a phased manner. Ms Banerjee said action plan for development of business models, architectural and structural designs suiting local architectural and structural designs and ethos, as well as construction programme has been formulated by IRCON and RLDA. Consultants have already been engaged by IRCON to develop business models, she added.
