Adequate compensation provided for land acquired for gas projects

Adequate compensation is provided to landowners for the land acquired for carrying out oil and gas projects (other than pipelines) as per the provisions contained in the Land Acquisition Act 1894, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Jitin Prasada said in a reply that with regard to pipelines projects for oil and gas sector, Right of User (RoU) in land is acquired under the Petroleum and Minerals Pipelines Act, 1962 (P and MP Act 1962). These Acts provide comprehensive legal framework under which land for the project is acquired with adequate compensation to the land owners for acquiring RoU in land that is determined as per provision of section 10 of the P and MP Act 1962, he added.

Mr Prasada said the compensation amount such determined is deposited with the Competent Authority, which in turn pays it to the persons entitled thereto, as provided under the P and MP Act.

He said in case of any disputes in respect of the compensation, the matter is referred to the competent authority of the district concerned for providing a prompt redressal.
