Nathpa Jhakri Power Station crosses 6000 MUs during current fiscal
Shimla | Monday, Nov 23 2009 IST

Satlug Jal Vidhut Nigam Limited (SJVNL) run 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station(NJHPS), which is the countrys largest underground operating Hydro Power Station, has achieved yet another distinction by producing 6000 MUs (i.e. 600 Crore units) during the current financial year on November 22, 2009. Head and General Manager of the Project (SJVNL), N.C. Bansal said in a press release issued here today that above achievment has become possible because of excellent management of silt, water and machines both in terms of Operation & Maintenance. As per the target set by Ministry of Power, this milestone was required to be achieved on January 13, 2010. Thus, this record generation has been achieved 52 days ahead of scheduled target. It would be pertinent to mention that during the current financial year, NJHPS has achieved a rare distinction of producing more than 1000 MUs continuously for three months in a row in the months of June, July & August.

Nathpa Jhakri Power Station is owned by SJVN Ltd. which is a Joint Venture of Govt. of India and Govt. of HP and is the only hydro power station in the country which has produced more than 6000 MUs in a financial year. This record generation from Nathpa Jhakri Project has been carried out at a time when the country at large was facing acute shortage in generation from its major hydro power stations due to low monsoon/inflow in the rivers. This Power Station is supplying valuable power to the northern grid states namely, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, J&KL, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi Uttarkhand & Chandigarh. Out of this, Himachal Pradesh alone has a share of 36.5% being equity share holder in the Project.
