Thakur charges Govt with halting development work
Mandi | Monday, Nov 23 2009 IST

Himachal Pradesh Congress president Kaul Singh Thakur today charged the BJP government with having brought all development activities to a grinding halt.

Addressing a news conference here, he said the popularity graph of the BJP had come to all time low. The crime was increasing, corruption was rampant, the public distribution system has been virtually paralyzed and educational health institutions had become non-functional for want of staff, he said.

He said law and order situation was worsening with the increase of murders, thefts and crime against women. Life and property was not safe. Instead of maintaining law and order the police force was being misused for fabricating false cases against political opponents, he added.

He said in the fair price shops rice, pulses, sugar and Atta had disappeared. The PDS system had virtually collapsed. The wheat seed was not available in the seed shop. In many places the shortage of seed was leading to quarrels and police was being called to restore order.

He regretted that the roads damaged during the rains had not been repaired particularly in the constituencies of Congress MLAs. He said the situation was the worse in Darang constituency. Many teachers had been transferred from the backward area without providing substitutes. Mr Thakur said the people of the state had been disillusioned with the BJP government. Even the rank and file of the BJP are not happy with the style of functioning of chief minister, he added.
