Appointing relative to coveted post, Haryana CM to file reply Chandigarh | Monday, Nov 23 2009 IST
The Punjab and Haryana High Court division bench of Justices M M Kumar and Jaswant Singh today allowed the state counsel's plea to grant further time to Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on a writ petition whereby the induction on deputation a close relative on a coveted post, and the amendment made in service rules to facilitate extension of deputation, has been challenged. The matter has been preferred before the High Court by Jind-based Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board (HSAMB) field staff association through its general secretary K L Kakar. It has been argued that induction on deputation of Jagwant Singh Rana from KRIBHCO as the chief marketing executive officer (CMEO) for one year in July 2008 and to grant extension for another year after amending the rules allegedly at the behest of the chief minister Hooda to `accommodate his close relative, hit prospects of petitioners promotion. Rana is a brother-in-law of late Joginder Singh, the elder brother of the chief minister. In its reply, the HSAMB has maintained that it had the power to appoint persons on deputation and that Ranas appointment and the extension granted were within the framework of law. After hearing state additional advocate general Sanjeev Kaushik, the bench while granting time for filing the response of the chief minister, adjourned the hearing to January seven, next year. -- (UNI) -- 23DR89.xml
