Reliance Infrastructure Ltd today submitted a demand draft of Rs 150.30 crore to the Haryana government as grant for a BOT (Build, Operate and Transfer) project of four laning of Gurgaon-Faridabad road and widening and strengthening of Ballabhgarh-Sohna road. The demand draft was handed over to Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh hooda by Mr Sudhir Hoshing, CEO-Road Business of Reliance Infrastructure Ltd. The concession period for the Rs 780 crore project was 17 years, including construction period of two years. The scheduled date of completion of project is May 2011. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister directed the Public Works (Building and Roads) Department to lay more emphasis on maintenance of roads, especially in crusher zones. He said stress should be laid on maintaining of roads and suggested that parameters enlisted for the BOT project should also be considered while constructing and strengthening of roads by the Department. The Chief Minister said the Department had achieved an important milestone in public private partnership projects as it was the first of its kind road project on BOT basis undertaken by the Department. He directed the concerned officers concerned to get the work completed within the scheduled period of two years so that public was benefited largely from this venture. Under this BOT project, the road from Gurgaon to Faridabad would be four laned and that from Ballabhgarh to Sohna (upto Lakhuwas junction) would be widened to 10 mts which served the purpose of four laning without central verge. In addition, some links of the roads like MCF road, crusher zone road and Pali Bakhri road will be improved as a part of scope of work. The total length of roads covered under the project would be 66 km. While referring to the achievements of the Department, Mr Hooda said a record investment of Rs 6400 crore had been made for construction and improvement of roads, bridges and building infrastructure during previous tenure of the state government. He said Rajiv Gandhi Bridges and Roads Infrastructure Development Programme Part-I, involving an investment of Rs 3000 crore and launched by UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on November 28,2007 at Charkhi Dadri, was implemented one year ahead of schedule. Now Part-II of Rajiv Gandhi Bridges and Roads Infrastructure Development Programme had been launched earlier this month with targeted investment of Rs 5000 crore by March, 2013. Public Works (Buildings and Roads) Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala said that under this ambitious project, certain categories of vehicles would be exempted from payment of toll. These categories of vehicles included two wheelers, tractor trolley carrying agricultural produce, defence vehicles, ambulances and funeral vans, police vehicles, fire-fighting vehicles, local non-commercial traffic in the vicinity of the toll road and non-commercial vehicles owned by all state governments, Central government and the Haryana state government undertakings. -- (UNI) -- 23DR87.xml
