UP Govt bans holding of dharna near Vidhan Bhawan
Lucknow | Monday, Nov 23 2009 IST

In the wake of terrorist threat, Uttar Pradesh government has banned holding of any dharna and demonstration near the Vidhan Bhawan here with immediate effect and has shifted the Dharna Sthal to elsewhere in the state capital.

According to official sources here tonight, the decision to ban the demonstration and dharna near the Vidhan Bhawan was taken following Intelligence inputs of terrorist threat.

Sources said that the Dharna Sthal, situated in front of the Vidhan Bhawan where people sit on dharna to press their demands would be shifted either to Jhule Lal Park near Nadwa or near Sahid Smarak, both on the banks of river Gomti.

Giving reasons for banning the demonstration and shifting the dharna sthal, officials said that people of the state capital were witnessing hardship during such dharna due to roadblock regularly.

''As Lucknow is one of the target of the terrorists and Vidhan Bhawan is a unique archaeological structure, hence all possible steps would be taken to prevent any incident in the place,'' the government statement added.

The sources also said that additional security would be provided in and around the Vidhan Bhawan following security threat.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that police forces have reached the dharna sthal tonight and was removing all the structures of the protestors there.
