Ranchi | Sunday, Nov 22 2009 IST

Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Maken today said the Centre was ready for talks with the Maoists and it would ensure development for all sections of people, but underground outfits must shun violence to achieve their goal.

If violence continued to be unleashed by the Maoists then talks process would be disrupted, Mr Maken told a news conference here.

With referrence to government plan to rush forces to the Maoists-hit state, Mr Maken said adequate forces would be deployed.

Modernisation of police forces was on the priority list, he added.

Six Cobra Battalion would be opened of which two got approval and the third would get sanction in March next.

He also announced that intelligence gathering of the Cobra Battalion would be enhanced. He made a passionate appeal to the Maoists, saying the government was always ready for talks.
