2 killed, 18 injured as bus plunges into rivulet

Two people were killed on the spot and 18 injured when a state-owned bus plunged into a rivulet from a bridge on the National Highway 206 near Perimena village in Tarikere taluk, about 60 km from here, early today.

Police said the bus, after hitting the railings of the bridge plunged into the Kottigehalla rivulet. The dead were identified as Jagadish from Gadag and Devendra from Andhra Pradesh.

Some of the injured were admitted to Meggon hospital in Shimoga while others were treated as outpatients, police said.

The accident occurred when the headlights of the KSRTC bus went off and the driver losing control over the vehicle.
