Union Minister faces Youth Congress ire
Malappuram | Sunday, Nov 22 2009 IST

A group of persons allegedly owing allegiance to Youth Congress today staged a demonstration against Union Minister for Home Mullappally Ramachandran for advocating re-entry of a former party colleague to Congress fold, here.

Sources said the group carrying banners raised slogans ''dont attempt groupism in the party by bringing back former Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president K Muraleedharan,'' when the minister arrived in Malappuram District Congress Committee office to attend a party function.

However, the demonstrators dispersed when police and senior leaders arrived at the venue.

Refusing to comment on the protest, Mr Ramachandran told reporters ''everybody has a right to protest.'' Meanwhile, Youth Congress leaders denied involvement of its activists in the stir.

A hue and cry was created in the party recently following remarks of Mr Ramachandran and other senior leaders, including V M Sudheeran and P C Chacko, MP, favouring return of Mr Muraleedharan, who was expelled from Congress after he formed a separate outfit Democratic Indira Congress (Karunakaran), a couple of years ago.

Mr Muraleedharan later merged his outfit with Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and became its president. He quit NCP to actively persue overtures to go back to the parent organisation.
