6 killed, 20 injured; admin sounds red alert
Guwahati | Sunday, Nov 22 2009 IST

ULFA triggered blasts claimed six lives and injured 20 others with the administration sounding a red alert here today.

Four of the deceased have been identified as Keshab Das, Dipu Das Ganesh Das and Pavan Thakur from Bihar, police said.

Those injured were shifted to the Guwahati Medical College(GMC) Hospital.

The blasts were suspected to be engineered by the ULFA, police said, adding intelligence agencies were expecting some kind of retaliation by the ULFA following the arrest of two of their top leaders--Chitrabon Hazarika and Sashadahr Chaudhury--in Bangladesh.

The first blast occurred in front of the Nalbari police station, the second went off in front of a mobile repairing shop while the third explosion took place in front of a hotel, police added.

However, local ULFA commander Heera Sarania denied involvement in the blasts, adding the blast was triggered at a time when the peace process was about to be revived and an NGO meeting with the Home Ministry officials slated to be held.

A high alert was sounded across the state in view of the blasts and people have been asked to stay indoors by the district administration to avert any untoward incident.
