Saurashtra squad lands in city
Kolkata | Sunday, Nov 22 2009 IST

The Saurashtra team has arrived in the city to face Bengal in a group B Ranji trophy tie which begins here on Tuesday.

The visitors will be buoyed by form of the star batsmen Cheteshwar Pujara who celebrated his return to the team with a brilliant double century in the previous match against Maharashtra.

A member of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, Pujara amassed 2000 runs in the previous two first-class seasons which included seven centuries and a triple. His effort helped Saurashtra secure a place in back-to-back semi-finals of the Ranji trophy. But an injury kept the man out of the cricket ground for close to six months and dampened his prospect of making it to the national side.

He also missed the entire season of the IPL season-2.

Saurashtra coach Debu Mitra, who was also the caoch of former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, said the battle between the two side will be intriguing.

Bengal, on the other hand, will be boosted by the return of Ganguly. He last played in the match against Baroda and scored 78 runs.

Regular captain Lakshmi Ratan Shukla and veteran Rohan Gavaskar were also expected to return to the fold. Saurashtra have 4 points from two encounters while Bengal is placed second in the group with 7 points but has played a game more than the visitors.
