Air Warriors to mesmerise Shillongites tomorrow

The Air Warrior Symphony Orchestra of the Indian Air Force will perform here tomorrow as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the Eastern Air Command headquarters.

The symphony orchestra will mesmerise the people at the Eastern Air Command headquarters with well-known classical, pop, jazz and medley compositions.

The symphony orchestra has enchanted audience with its soul-stirring performance in all the prominent cities of the country and this would be its second performance in Meghalaya.

''The melodious tunes with fusion and pop music would surely enthrall the music lovers of Shillong,'' IAF Spokesman, Wing Commander Ranjib Sahoo said.

Empanelled with Indian Council of Cultural Research (ICCR), the Bangalore-based orchestra of Jalahalli Air Force Station has participated in the international Military Band festivals held in Finland, France and Italy.

In 2005, the IAF band became the first Asian member of the International Military Music Society headquartered at Norway.

The orchestra composed of 70 musicians who play brass, woodwind, reed, electronic and percussion instruments.

Mooted in 2002, the objective of the Air Warrior Symphony Orchestra is to interact with the public and create awareness about the IAF through music.

The IAFs band was formed in 1944 at the Royal Air Force Station 'Kohat', North-Western Frontier.
