India Conference on Tulu Culture begins
Preliminary to World Tulu conference to be held in Ujire next month, a two-day regional seminar on Tulu culture Costume, Ornaments and Folk Medicinal herbs-today got off to a colourful start here. As part of the seminar, an exhibition showcasing Tulu costumes and dress, old gold and silver ornaments of Tulunadu, pottery works, old earthen and metal utensils was also organised attracting lot of enthusiastic viewers at the venue. Inaugurating the seminar, Renowned Folk Expert, Researcher and Writer Erya Laxminaryana Alva emphasised the need for uniting all sections of Tulus for revival and promotion of the language, culture and tradition to regain its past glory. He said Muslims, Kannadigas and Konkanis made valuable contribution to the language. Muslims from Middle-East, who came here as traders, settled down in undivided Daxina Kannada and adopted Tulu culture. It was necessary for every Tulu-speaking person to strive unitedly for protection and promotion of language and culture facing threats today due to modernisation. -- (UNI) -- 21MS38.xml
