India Mumbai police to organise seminar against terrorism on Nov 23
The city police will organise a seminar on ''Terror Preparedness'' on November 23 to spread awareness among the citizens on measures to combat terrorism. Additional Commissioner of Police Amitabh Gupta told newspersons that the seminar, to be held at NCPA threatre in South Mumbai, will examine ''what we currently know about the strategic application of hard and soft power in countering the sources and facilitators of terrorism.'' Mr Gupta said after the 26/11 terror attacks, city police have upgraded the technology and purchased latest equipment, besides forming five Quick Response Teams (QRT) comprising of 200 police personnel and 13 Bomb Disposal and detects Squad (BDDS). ''We have also purchased 39 bullet proof vehicles, 600-odd combat vehicles, 160 new beat marshal vehicles, speed boats and sophisticated weapons,'' he said. Training camps for the police personnel were conducted on day-to-day basis and for fitness the commissionarate have set up gymnasium in 10 police stations in the city, Mr Gupta said. Former Director General of Police of Punjab K P S Gill former, Intelligence Bureau Special Director S S Sandhu, Jammu and Kashmir Director of Police Dr Ashok Bhan, Mr Praveen Swami, Associate Edtior of The Hindu and Dr Ajai Sahani, Executive Director of Conflict Management, Delhi will speak at the seminar, he added. -- (UNI) -- 21BY17.xml
