India Indian challenge ends in singles of Asian TT
India's challenge in the singles of 19th Asian table Tennis championship cames to end and as five men and five women players crashed out opf the event. All the Indian players lost out to their opponents in second and third rounds of the championship being played here. India's Sharat Kamal, who had given tough competition to world number 5th ranking Wang Likin of China in the team event, crashed out in the third round. After getting a walk over from Sang Guk Kim of Korea in 2nd round, he lost to 12th ranked Jun Mizutani of Japan in straight games 6-11,9-11,5-11 and 6-11. Ko Lai Chak of Hongkong beat Saurabh Chakorborty 11-2,11-4,11-5 and 11-6 in the thrid round while Saumyadeep Roy was defeated in the 2nd round by Chinese peddler Wu Hav 7-11,4-11, 3-11 and 7-11. Devesh Karia lost to Chin Chu Wu of China Teipei while Aman Balgu was defeated by Seia Kishikawa of Japan. In women's singles, India,s top ranking player Shamini lost to Wai Mengu of Singapore 7-11,3-11,3-11 and 2-11 while Aei Ching Seng of China Teipei got better of Pooja Sahasrabudhe 11-6,11-5,11-3 and 11-4. Fukuwara of Japn beat Mamta Prabhu in the 2nd round 11-2,11-3,11-6 and 11-7 while Rian Hui of Korea defeated Paulami Ghatk 11-9,11-5,16-14 and 11-6.Similarly, Divya Deshpandey lost to Yuka Singaki of Japan while Muama Das was defeated by Jam King of Korea. Indians, however,are still in the contention in the doubles as pair of Sharat Kamal and Saurabh Chakorborty defeated Malaysian pair of Shakirin Ibrahim and Kian Beg Chai 5-11,13-11,11-9 and 12-10 to reach the third round. -- (UNI) -- 21SPD16.xml
